Fadogia Agrestis Safety
Today we will talk about the safety of Fadogia Agrestis.
When you take any supplement or medicine, there are certain things you should be aware of in order to make sure you are not putting yourself at risk.
For example, when you take Vitamin D, you run the risk of hypercalcemia, which is a build of of excess calcium in your blood.
Fadogia agrestis is not different. Although it is safe, it still has certain risks associated, as with any supplement or medicine.
For this reason, it is important to be aware of the potential risks, and how to make sure you minimise the chances of them occuring.
The article we are looking at is
Effects of oral administration of aqueous extract of Fadogia agrestis (Schweinf. Ex Hiern) stem on some testicular function indices of male rats
and can be found here.
This is a summary of the study:
What They Did:
They split rats into four groups.
One group (the control) got just water.
The other three groups got different amounts of the plant extract every day for 28 days.
Results:
The rats given the extract had changes in their testicles:
Their testicles got heavier compared to their body weight.
Some chemicals in the testicles (like cholesterol and sialic acid) increased, while others (like certain proteins) decreased.
Some enzyme activities went up or down, which might suggest problems with how the testicles work.
After stopping the extract, some of these changes started to go back to normal, especially in the group that got the smallest dose.
Effectively, what they found was that when taking fadogia agrestis, particularly at higher rates than are traditionally used, there was an alteration of testicle chemistry. However, it was found that this alteration was reversed upon cessation of the dosage routine.
Interesting observation: the testicles of the rats increased in weight and size. This is observable for any who take the supplement themselves, however, the increase reverses back to the prior state upon stopping the regime.
So, what can we learn from this?
Basically, fadogia does alter the size of your testicles, and may alter the chemistry as well. However, as long as you stick to the recommended dosage, this will reverse.
So, what is the recommended dosage?
No more than 400mg per day, and, to be extra safe, cycle on and off.
Personally, I never use fadogia for longer than 2 weeks without taking a 1 week break to ensure safety.
Also, since I have been taking it, to provide some anecdotal evidence, I have had no problems with my testicles working correctly.
So, to conclude, as with any medicine or supplement, there are inherent risks that come with taking fadogia.
If you would like to ensure your health when safety when taking fadogia agrestis, I recommend you stick to the recommended dosage as listed on our bottles.
